The Swing Shift Shuffle is a radio program of swing, big band, jazz, boogie woogie and other popular music from the 1930's and 40's that airs every Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (US Central Time) on WEVL 89.9 FM in Memphis, Tennessee, with a live webcast at wevl.org. In addition to the radio show, this blog is dedicated to all aspects of the Swing Era, including art, automobiles, cartoons, comics, history, movies, music, news, science, technology, and anything else that happened during that time. Happy Birthday Raymond Scott! Special SSS Tonight!

On September 10, 1908, Harry Warnow was born in Brooklyn, NY.  A musical prodigy who was playing piano by age two, he grew into Raymond Scott, composer, bandleader and inventor whose influence reached into everything from popular music of the swing era to cartoons (both classic and modern), electronic music, Jim Henson, Motown, advertising, film and television.  A mostly unheralded genius, Scott is probably best known as the composer of approximately 20 tunes that ended up in many classic Warner Bros. cartoons, although he did not write them for that purpose.  In honor of Scott's birthday, we will feature some of his most interesting music on tonight's broadcast of the SSS.  Hope you can join us.
